Experience
the cultural delights of Morocco on a travel/study trip sponsored
by Oakton Community College. Three excursions are scheduled for 2005:
April 9 - 23, Oct. 1 - 15, and Oct. 15 - 29.
Start
with the museums, monuments, and mosques of Rabat, and enjoy a lecture
on Moroccan traditions and Islam. Drive through enchanting forests
on the way to Volubilis, where the influence of Moulay Ismail, one
of the nation's most powerful political leaders from the late 17th
and early 18th centuries, may still be seen, including stables for
12,000 horses and cathedral-proportioned granaries that held 20,000
prisoners and slaves. Travel on to the imperial city of Fez, home
to the Karaouine Mosque and the Islamic religious university, El Attarin
Medersa. Following a stop in Marrakesh, the journey ends in modern
Casablanca.
