Health
care professionals and community members interested in the holistic
team treatment of Parkinson's disease are invited to attend a symposium,
8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, at Oakton Community College,
1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.
"Parkinson's Disease Care: An Integrated Multidisciplinary Approach"
is designed to present comprehensive treatment strategies to achieve
optimum care and improved quality of life for patients and families.
The symposium also features expert medical directors and faculty from
Northwestern University and Alexian Neurosciences Institute - both
National Parkinson Foundation Centers of Excellence.
Topics
include an overview of Parkinson's disease and medical management,
as well as specific presentations on "Multidisciplinary Delivery of
Care," "Psychological and Social Aspects of Parkinson's Disease,"
"Nutrition and Alternative Treatments," "Nursing Considerations,"
"Physical Therapy and Exercise," and "Speech and Voice Therapy."
Registration
fee of $80 includes lunch, educational materials, and Continuing Education
Credits (6.0 clock hours) for social workers, counselors, physical
therapists, nursing home administrators, and other professionals (7.2
contact hours for registered nurses).
