A seminar
panel on the controversy surrounding Mel Gibson's acclaimed film,
"The Passion of the Christ," will be held Wednesday, April
21, 12:30 - 1:45 p.m., at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road.
The public is invited to this free event.
Entitled
"'Passion' Perspectives: Anti-Semitism in Religion, History, and Popular
Culture," the seminar will feature individual presentations by three
Oakton faculty members, as well as a discussion moderated by Hollace
Graff, chair of Oakton's philosophy and humanities departments. Dennis
Polkow will speak on "Representations of Jewish-Christian Relations
in First Century Christian Literature"; Douglas Berger will
address "Gibson's 'Passion' and Lessons from the Past: Representations
of 'the Jews' in Medieval Christian History"; and Ingrid Torinus
will reflect on media and pop culture reactions to "The Passion."
