Parenting
expert Dr. Thomas W. Phelan will share his straightforward advice
about parenting and discipline, 7 - 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 14,
at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.
"My
goal is to help parents avoid some of the turmoil we experienced,
and which I hear about from other parents every day," says Phelan,
the father of a child diagnosed with attention deficit disorder. "With
some basic understanding of what makes children tick - and a ton of
patience - parenthood can provide some of life's greatest satisfactions."
Dr.
Phelan will discuss proven techniques found in his ParentMagic series
of books, videos, and DVDs, including the popular programs 1-2-3
Magic, Surviving Your Adolescents, Self-Esteem Revolutions
In Children, and All About Attention Deficit Disorder.
Dr. Phelan is a member of the American Psychological Association and
Illinois Psychological Association. He also has served on the boards
of ADDA and CHADD, two national ADD organizations.
