evolution of public relations and explores basic PR techniques and
tactics. A strong emphasis will be placed on writing and learning
how to shape and deliver messages through various media. Eight-week
course meets 6 - 10 p.m., Tuesdays, starting Jan. 18.
Public
Relations II (MKT 244-050) emphasizes organizing and promoting
special events, creating publications and Web sites, and managing
crises and public issues. Students will also learn to work with TV,
radio, and other broadcast media. Eight-week course meets 6 - 10 p.m.,
Tuesdays, starting March 22.
"It's important to understand how PR is used in today's society, whether
to motivate customers, call attention to a problem, or influence public
policy," says Deborah Popely, president of Popely & Company Inc.,
the course instructor.
For more than 20 years, Popely has worked with corporations, charitable
foundations, associations, arts organizations, social service agencies,
advocacy groups, government agencies, and political figures on a wide
range of local, regional, and national topics. She frequently leads
professional seminars and has developed and presented a comprehensive
training program for arts marketers nationwide.
