Professors Honored With Teaching Award

Six Oakton professors were honored recently by The National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) for excellence in teaching and leadership. The NISOD Excellence Awards are awarded annually to support and celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of college professors.

Professors honored this year from Oakton include Chicago resident and professor of English Lorenz Boehm; Oak Park resident and professor of television and production services Robert Burton; Mt. Prospect resident Mary DeNotto, professor, physical therapist assistant; Chicago resident and assistant professor of anthropology and geography Victoria Giambrone; Oak Park resident and professor of English Lynda Jerit; and Elmhurst resident and professor of mathematics Suzanne Stock.

Recipients of the award were presented with pewter medallions and a booklet listing their names, titles, and college affiliations during a special ceremony at the NISOD annual conference in Texas. Oakton President Peg Lee and the board of trustees also recognized the professors at the College's August 21 board meeting.

Nominations for the Excellence Awards are submitted each year by NISOD presidents. They were established in 1989 in connection with a University of Texas national study of teaching excellence.
