The Oakton
Community College women's basketball team will focus on their speed
in the upcoming 2004-05 season, according to Raiders head coach Rich
Bolinder.
"We
plan to play up-tempo basketball and use the fast break a lot this
season," says Bolinder."This
is one of the quickest teams I've had in a long time."
The Raiders
this year have more depth than previous teams, Bolinder says. However,
of the 15 players on the roster, 14 are freshmen. "I'm still very
confident," Bolinder says. "I've been impressed with their intensity."
Freshmen
expected to make valuable contributions this season are 5-0 forward
Koula Damianides (Glenbrook South High School), 5-1 guard Tanya
Alba (Maine West High School), and 5-7 guard Lee Gross
(Niles West High School).
The
Raiders begin the 2004-05 campaign 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 12 when they
host College of Meramec. The Raiders start conference play Jan. 11
when they host Elgin at 5:15 p.m.
Last
season the Raiders were one win away from becoming the first women's
basketball team in Oakton history to participate in the National Tournament.
