Work by Local Sculptor on Display at Oakton

Material and Object, A Romance: Sculpture by Mimi Peterson, opens Thursday, July 7, in the Koehnline Gallery at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines. A free public reception is scheduled 5 - 8 p.m.

The exhibition runs through Aug. 31.

A former painter turned sculptor, Peterson transforms manmade and natural objects into art. The Chicago artist uses contrasting objects to help evoke the inevitable cycles of life.

The Koehnline Gallery is currently observing summer hours, 10 a.m. - 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Oakton is closed Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, through Aug. 14.
