After last season's respectable fourth-place finish in the Skyway
Conference, and a surprise victory in postseason play, the Oakton
Community College softball team enjoys strong momentum going into
the 2006 campaign.
Second-year
head coach Glen Watson and assistant Denise Hollis plan to build on
that success by continuing to assemble a strong foundation for the
program. Both coaches are focused on developing positive chemistry
through leadership and teamwork, and providing support for each student-athlete.
Key
newcomers adding depth, speed, power, and pitching to a solid veteran
team include: Central Suburban League All-Conference infielder Amanda
Kasdorf (Maine West); All-Chicago Metro player Robin Cavanaugh (Lane
Tech); CSL All-Conference catcher Kathleen Zier (New Trier); infielder
Mallory Matelli (Glenbrook South); outfielder Lacey Cowsky (Ridgewood);
and infielder/outfielder Stefany Bernabe (Mather).
Hollis
recruited talented outfielder Cynthia Crallie (Von Steuben) and outfielder
JoAnna Fugate (Niles North) from the volleyball team for additional
speed and intensity. Siobhan Mischke, a standout Maine South infielder,
rounds out the talented freshmen.
This
outstanding recruiting class joins All-Skyway Conference pitcher Carrie
McCoy (Wheeling), outfielder Darcy Leslie (Mather), and infielder
Christine Eberhardt (Mather). All-American infielder Susan Domenick
(New Trier), returns along with Lindsay Parsill (Ridgewood), and captain
Anna Domenick (New Trier).
Oakton's
2006 season opens March 12 - 17 at the Disney Spring Training Tournament
in Orlando, Florida. The Lady Raiders are scheduled to play 10 games
in just four days.
