Oakton Celebrates Great American Songbook
Ray Hartstein Campus Hosts Valentine's Day Luncheon

Celebrate Valentine's Day with Oakton Community College as it presents "Songs for Lovers" luncheon and concert, from 11:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, in the cafeteria at the Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.

Join jazz vocalist Spider Saloff, pianist and musical director Jeremy Kahn, and Bill Sheldon (the hosts of WFMT-FM's "Words and Music" program), as they share fascinating stories behind some of the world's greatest love songs. Focusing on the Great American Songbook (those popular songs written between 1920 and 1960 by Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, George and Ira Gershwin, and other composers), the trio will perform songs that express the sweetness, and sadness, of romantic love, including "The Very Thought of You," My Funny Valentine," I Wish I Were in Love Again," and "Cry Me a River."

The cost of the luncheon and program is $25. To reserve a seat, register for SOC S61-71 at either Oakton campus. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door. For more information, call Leona Hoelting at 847-635-1411.
