Summer is for shaping up in a variety of fun classes
offered by the Alliance for Lifelong Learning at Oakton Community
College. All featured courses meet at the Prairie View Community Center,
6834 Dempster St., Morton Grove.
Senior Exercise (PED E53-31) is a program that emphasizes
non-vigorous exercise while increasing flexibility. Two five-week
sessions are available: 9 – 10 a.m., Tuesday, starting May 27,
or 9 – 10 a.m., Thursday, starting May 29. Course fee for either
section is $48.
Pilates (PED EO4-31) is a method of exercise designed
to stretch, strengthen, and balance the body. Benefits include improved
lung capacity, circulation, and coordination. Five-week course meets
7:30 – 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, starting May 27. Course fee is $65.
Gentle Moves (PED B01-31) is designed for individuals
whose health is compromised by being overweight or those with Type
II diabetes, arthritis, and high blood pressure. Students will perform
gentle movements to help improve their quality of life. Four-week
course meets 7:15 – 8:10 p.m., Wednesday and Monday, starting
May 28. Course fee is $86.
Strong and Long (PED E18-31) uses resistance and
flexibility training to increase blood flow, help manage weight, and
offset bone loss. Workouts include the use of calisthenics, balls,
and dumbbells combined with lengthening and relaxation exercises.
Five-week course meets 8:40 – 9:40 a.m., Friday, starting May
30. Course fee is $48.
Other fitness classes available include: Zumba (PED S84-31), Spin
and Tone (PED E03-31), and Gentle Yoga (PED S13-31).
