Turkey's historical and religious pedigree on a study/travel trip
offered by Oakton Community College. Two trips are scheduled for 2004:
June 26 - July 10 and Sept. 18 - Oct. 2.
Begin
in Istanbul, the "bridge" between Europe and Asia. Visit the ancient
villas, palaces, and fortresses along the Turkey shoreline, and enjoy
a special presentation on "Ottoman History." Journey to Ankara, for
more than 80 years the capital of modern Turkey, and view the Anatolian
Civilizations and the Mausoleum of Ataturk.
In Cappadocia,
visit rock-carved churches and the underground city of Derinkuyu.
Travel to the holy city of Konya and visit the shrine of Mevlana.
At Ephesus, one of Turkey's most important ancient cities, see the
Basilica of St. John and the house of the Virgin Mary. The trip concludes
in Canakkale and the legendary Troy, site of the tragedy of Paris
and Helen.
The trip
includes cultural interaction and captivating educational lectures.
