Oakton Seeks Volunteer Tutors

Volunteer tutors interested in helping students improve their English skills are invited to attend two training sessions at the Ray Hartstein Campus of Oakton Community College, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie. Sponsored by Volunteers in Teaching Adults (VITA), training is scheduled Tuesday, March 23, 6:30 - 10 p.m., and Saturday, March 27, 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

VITA tutors work to help students improve English speaking, reading, and writing skills. Volunteers coordinate with teachers in the English as a Second Language (ESL) and Learn to Read to Learn (LTRTL) programs to address individual student needs. Volunteers from all walks of life may work weekdays, evenings, or Saturdays, and are asked to pledge two to six hours of tutoring weekly at the Ray Hartstein Campus or local schools, churches, and libraries.

For more information, visit VITA at www.oakton.edu/cont_ed/all/vita.html, or call Cathy Niemet at 847-635-1426.
