Bobby
Muller, president of the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation, will
address the potential consequences of a new U.S. draft at 1 p.m.,
Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the Des Plaines campus of Oakton Community College,
1600 E. Golf Road. The public is invited to attend this free discussion,
sponsored by Oakton Students for Social Justice.
"Just
connect the dots," says Muller. "From military forces that already
are overextended, to falling retention and recruitment numbers - it's
no wonder so many people believe the U.S. is headed towards another
draft. We need to start a dialogue now about our nation's security,
and to encourage people to demand answers before their number comes
up."
Muller,
the co-founder of a Nobel Peace Prize-winning campaign to ban landmines,
has for many years spoken out about the consequences of war. He started
the Alliance for Security (www.allianceforsecurity.org) and current
"Tour of Duty" campaign to talk about America's approach to foreign
policy with students on college campuses nationwide.
