Three
veterans of the war in Iraq stop at Oakton Community College, 12:30
- 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 26, as part of "Operation Truth,"
a nonprofit, non-partisan effort to spread the truth about the war
from those who have seen its battles.
"The
conflict in Iraq affects us all, either directly or indirectly," says
Richard Stacewicz, coordinator of the Honors Program at Oakton. "Oakton
feels it is important to give students and the community a chance
to hear from and have a conversation with actual combatants."
Founded
by 30-year-old Paul Reickhoff, a first lieutenant in the Army Reserves
who served in Iraq for 15 months, "Operation Truth" is designed to
stimulate dialogue about the realities of the war among Americans.
During the visit to Oakton, Reickhoff and others will share their
personal experiences in Iraq, and expand on the mission of "Operation
Truth."
This event is sponsored by the Oakton Educators for Social Responsibility,
Students for Social Justice, the Oakton Service Learning Program,
and the Oakton Honors Program.
