Volunteer
tutors interested in helping students improve their English skills
are invited to attend two training sessions at the Ray Hartstein Campus
of Oakton Community College, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie. Sponsored
by Volunteers in Teaching Adults (VITA), training is scheduled for
Tuesday, June 8 and Thursday, June 10, 6:30 - 10 p.m.
VITA
tutors help students improve English speaking, reading, and writing
skills. Volunteers coordinate with teachers in the English as a Second
Language (ESL) and Learn to Read to Learn (LTRTL) programs to address
individual student needs. Volunteers have flexible schedules, and
are asked to pledge two to six hours of weekly tutoring at the Ray
Hartstein Campus or local schools, churches, and libraries.
