Performing
Arts at Oakton joins the fight to curb violence against women and
girls with three special performances of Eve Ensler's acclaimed "The
Vagina Monologues," Thursday, Feb. 10, through Saturday, Feb.
12, on Oakton's main stage at 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines. All
proceeds from these performances go to local organizations that combat
violence toward women.
For
the first time, Oakton's production of "The Vagina Monologues" is
being directed by a man, Michael Ryczek, a veteran of Lookingglass
Theater Company, among others.
Ensler,
founder of the V-Day global movement, encourages performances of her
Obie Award-winning play to raise funds for organizations that work
to stop violence against women. Based on interviews with women from
around the world, the play explores everything from the intimate to
the hilarious while delving into its subjects' deepest secrets and
fantasies.
Performances
are scheduled at 8 p.m. Feb. 10, 11, and 12. Tickets are $17 for general
admission and $14 for students and seniors, and may be purchased by
calling the Oakton Community College Box Office at 847-635-1900.
