Oakton Financial Aid Director Honored

Cheryl Warmann, director of student financial assistance at Oakton Community College, is the winner of the 2006 Midwest Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (MASFAA) Leadership Award for the State of Illinois, MASFAA officials announced at the group's annual conference, Oct. 15 - 18 in Des Moines, Iowa.

The award is presented each year to recognize the outstanding leadership of a member from each of the nine MASFAA member states (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, West Virginia, and Wisconsin). Recipients must be current MASFAA members and have made outstanding contributions to the financial aid profession at the state and regional levels for at least the last seven years. Individuals selected for this award must demonstrate high integrity and character, as well as creative leadership; have inspired and encouraged others to participate in professional development; and have been actively involved in professional organizations.

During fiscal year 2006, Oakton's financial aid office administered an estimated $4 million in grants and scholarships, helping some 2,000 students advance their education.

Warmann joined Oakton's staff in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a master's degree in college student personnel from Loyola University of Chicago.
