Arlington
Heights resident Glen Watson is the new softball coach at Oakton
Community College, athletic director Dave Cole has announced.
Since
2001, Watson has been director and coach for the Northwest Suburban
Prep Softball League for Wheeling, Hersey, St. Viator, and Palatine
High Schools. He was a three-team standout in soccer, track, and baseball
at Maine West High School.
"I'm looking forward to building an exciting softball program at Oakton,"
says Watson, who was drafted by the Chicago White Sox as a utility
player in 1976. "My background is in teaching and developing good
work habits. We're going to sneak up on people this year."
From
1991 to 2004, Watson coached a variety of girls teams, aged 10 to
16. His 16-and-under squad was state runner-up in 2000 and his other
teams (under-10, -12, and -14) all held district champ titles between
1997 and 2000.
Oakton's
softball team embarks on the 2005 campaign Monday, March 14, when
the Raiders travel to Danville Area Community College for a 2 p.m.
doubleheader. The Raiders make their 2005 home debut Tuesday, April
5, hosting Prairie State at 3 p.m. Complete team schedules are available
