"We believe it is important to ensure that deserving students, especially those who are the first in their family to attend college, receive the support they need to graduate and pursue meaningful careers," said Ernest C. Wentcher, president of the foundation. The philanthropist also has helped raise $1 million for Children's Memorial Hospital of Chicago.

Members of the Wentcher Educational Foundation board include Vincent Agnew (ret.), senior investment officer, Chicago Title and Trust Co; Stuart Duhl, partner, Michael Best & Friedrich LLP; Brian Fitzpatrick of Glenview, principal, Deloitte & Touche; Richard Helmholz, University of Chicago law professor; and Jean Hoff, Wilmette, foundation vice president.
