April 21, 2007

1. Caring for the Caregiver (Morning Only)
John Roope, Caregiver Connections
John Roope shares the importance of making sure your own needs are met, so that you are able to care for the infants, toddlers, and families in your centers and homes.

2. Things You’ve Always Wanted to Know About Infants, Toddlers, and Their Families* (*but were afraid to ask)
(Morning Only)
Cynthia Lashley, Early Childhood Education Specialist

Those who are new to the world of infants and toddlers, as well as more experienced practitioners, occasionally need to share questions and concerns with colleagues and parents. Join Cynthia Lashley and other caregivers to explore these issues together.
(Please note: Class size will be limited to allow for discussion.)

3. Striking a Balance (Afternoon Only)
John Roope, Caregiver Connections

Learn how to balance work and family by creating personal ways to deal with the demands made on you daily by the infants, toddlers, and families in your care.

4. Toddler Troubles Can Be Good Time (Afternoon Only)
Cynthia Lashley, Early Childhood Education Specialist

Do you work with toddlers? Join us for a “tune-up” to update, reframe, and readjust our thinking about the toddlers in our lives and their sometimes challenging behaviors.

5. How Many Ways Can You Hold a Baby?
Culturally Sensitive Infant Toddler Care
(Afternoon Only)
Robin Byster and Delores Malone

Caring for infants, toddlers, and their families is an intimate job. We often are challenged to understand cultures different from our own,
and other ways of doing things. In this workshop, we will examine ways to handle diversity issues with families and co-workers.

6. Infants Grieve Too (Both Sessions)
Debra A. Clark, Director/Teen Parent Educator,
Joliet Township High School Infant Childcare Center

“Poor baby, he doesn’t know what is happening.” It’s time to reconsider this erroneous adage, especially when it comes to a child under the age of two whose family has suffered a loss.

7. Strengthening Families Illinois –
What It Means in Child Care
(Both Sessions)
Phyllis Nickel, Children’s Home and Aid Society, Child Care Resource and Referral

Research in child abuse prevention continues to inform child care
practices, and has been adopted as Strengthening Families Illinois. In this powerful prevention and promotion philosophy, child care providers contribute significantly to the well-being and safety of families.
