Oakton’s Jancila receives ESGR Patriot Award

(Nov. 7, 2016) Oakton Community College Testing Center Coordinator Maureen Jancila (Glenview) was presented with a Patriot Award from Illinois Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) during a special meeting held in the college’s board room.

“It was an honor to be recommended for the Patriot Award,” Jancila said. “I am truly humbled to accept this award on behalf of the college.”

Jancila was nominated for the award by Petty Officer Second Class (PO2) Jay Kim, a testing center assistant who is in the United States Navy Reserve and assigned to Naval Station Great Lakes. Kim nominated Jancila for recognition because of her support of his military training time.

“She is the consummate professional with a work ethic that is unparalleled and her constant support of my military obligation is truly a blessing,” Kim said in his nomination. “It is an honor and privilege to work with her, and her unwavering support without question has provided me with the much needed support in my civilian life.”

Oakton President Joianne L. Smith added, “As a military-friendly college, Oakton strives to provide the best in support for our veterans and those serving in the National Guard or Reserve, whether they are students or employees.”

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States.

“The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who—like the citizen warriors before them—have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said Michael Holub, Illinois ESGR vice chair. “Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”
