Cheikhna Cissokho of Evanston (Evanston Township High School) won for his poem “Brush off the Dust.” Also, two Oakton students placed in the top-three of the nonfiction category. Max Wacker of Arlington Heights (Buffalo Grove High School) took second for “Lessons in Attendance” and Jillian Sliwa of Des Plaines (South Side Baptist School) garnered third for “The Dress.”
“Oakton’s award winners are tremendously gifted writers,” said Danielle Aquiline, associate professor of English. “This is reflective of the growing interest and participation in creative writing initiatives at the college.”
