Oct. 20 Oakton ‘Jazz Lounge’ to celebrate Thelonious Monk

(Oct. 3, 2017) Oakton Community College’s Performing Arts Center (PAC), 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines, will be transformed into a cool jazz lounge at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20. Listen to the Oakton Jazz Band, directed by Robert Evans, as it entertains with a blend of classic and cool jazz standards.

“During the evening, we will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great jazz pianist and composer, Thelonious Monk, known for his unique improvisational style,” Evans says. “Highlighting the celebration will be the performance of one of his most well-known ballads, ‘Round Midnight.’”

Evans is an accomplished performer, clinician and conductor throughout Illinois. Previously, he has served as director of bands at LaSalle-Peru High School and Homewood-Flossmoor High School.
