Matt Jacoby is the new women's tennis coach at Oakton Community College, athletic director Dave Cole has announced.

"Having just been named the new head coach, I'm still looking to put a team together," says Jacoby, a Chicago resident. "Our practices begin during the fall semester and we practice about three or four times a week. During the season we will compete in six dual matches and play in three tournaments."

Scholarships are available for eligible players, he added.

Jacoby says his main objective is for his players to have fun.

"Players will also make new friends with fellow students and along the way, their tennis skills will improve," he says. "Winning is less important then having an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Once that happens, the wins will follow."

A 1996 graduate of New Trier High School, Jacoby was a member of the Trevians' state championship tennis team his senior year and was ranked as an all-conference and all-state player. Throughout his high school tennis career, Jacoby was also ranked by the Chicago District Tennis Association.

Jacoby played for Colby College's tennis team in 1997 before transferring to the University of Colorado. His tennis background also includes working as an instructor at the North Shore Racquet Club in Northbrook from 1997 to 2002.

The Raiders begin the 2005 season Tuesday, Sept. 13 when they travel to Crystal Lake to face McHenry County College.
