Finally! A complete Web Authoring System for Microsoft Windows and Macintosh users. Nvu makes managing a web site a snap. Now anyone can create web pages and manage a website with no technical expertise or knowledge of HTML. Nvu can be a handy (and did we mention FREE) alternative to Dreamweaver, allowing you to create new web pages or work on pages created in other authoring programs. In this introductory workshop, participants will learn Nvu's basic authoring commands by creating a simple home page. Steps for downloading and installing Nvu at home will be covered.

Other topics will include the general steps of planning an online course, quality course design principles, determining appropriate technologies for your curriculum, Oakton’s online course rubric and WebCT exemplary courses. At the end of the session, attendees will have a template they can use later in their course design process

From the Techsmith people who gave us Camtasia and Snagit, Jing is especially great for creating brief how-to demos. You can create and distribute short, reusable learning objects almost as fast as you can conceive them. Open a student's homework in Word, correct it, narrate your actions, and send it back to the student in seconds! Capture a still shot and mark it up. Attendees will learn the simple steps for using Jing and and the different means of "sharing" their work.

Participants will learn to set up an Acrobat.com account, use Adobe ConnectNow and share your personal meeting room with others!

Participants will learn to use Windows Movie Maker to capture, add effects and transitions, add background audio, and export the finished movie.

OPAL-SC is pleased to offer you a series of mini-workshops on assessment this fall. The sessions will enhance your knowledge and skills in the field of assessment and increase your confidence in using assessment tools. Each concurrent session will run twice. Please sign up for two different sessions by October 2, 2009. Even though the concurrent sessions are scheduled to run during the joint division meeting on Monday, October 12, 2009, you are still required to register through the Center for Professional Development (CPD).

CLAQWA (Cognitive Level and Quality of Writing Assessment) is a free tool offered to college instructors and students from the University of South Florida during its beta testing. It is an electronic rubric system that offers instructors the ability to electronically grade student submissions and collect grading data across course sections for the purpose of assessment. CLAQWA was designed to help foster thinking and writing expectations across disciplines, thereby raising the writing levels throughout the college. The system is based upon Bloom’s taxonomy and consensus from the English/Philosophy departments as to what defines good writing and critical thinking.
