Service Requests
Instructional Media Services offers
several methods to reserve equipment including computers and software
for classes and special events. Service requests can be phoned
to our office at either campus, they can be mailed to the IMS
office at either campus, or requests can be made in person.
Call (847) 635-1995 DP or (847)
635-1431 RHC to make a service request for either campus, or stop
by the Instructional Media Services office – room 1815 on
the Des Plaines campus or room A221 on the Ray Hartstein Campus.
We are pleased to offer the additional
opportunity to place service requests online using the PDF forms
available from the IMS website.
Please remember the following guidelines
when making requests:
-
All service
requests are accepted on a first come/first served basis.
-
Amount of equipment,
complexity and location of set up, availability of software,
and other pending equipment/software requests all impact the
quality of IMS service; please order as far in advance as
possible (up to one semester ahead).
-
Online service
requests must be made at least 72 hours in advance.
-
For all other
requests, software titles must be ordered at least 48 hours
in advance to allow for shipment between campuses using the
college’s courier. Equipment must be ordered at least
24 hours in advance.
-
A standing order
covers multiple uses in a single room and time period on consecutive
class dates; all other requests cover a single class meeting.
Instructions for phone, mail, or
in person requests remain the same; please provide complete information
(date, start/end times, room number, equipment needed, software
titles and reference numbers) as well as a phone or email address
where you can be reached if there are questions or problems.
For complete instructions for submitting
online service requests, please see the link to the left.
Off Campus Loans
Depending on volume, type of equipment/media,
and intended use, most equipment is available for off campus loan
to Oakton faculty, staff and administrators. Because of limited
inventory, loans will be made for the shortest reasonable period
of time. If you are giving a presentation off campus, please contact
IMS as far in advance as possible; off campus use of video projectors
is at the discretion of the Dean of Library and Media Services.
Students, with permission from teachers,
may check out camcorders and related equipment for class projects.
Media titles cannot be taken off campus by students.
Cancellations
Please be considerate of your colleagues
and the IMS staff. If you have ordered something you do not need,
please cancel your request.
Instructional Media Services tries
to complete all service requests “in place, on time, and
ready.” Occasionally, classroom equipment malfunctions,
or un-foreseen circumstances prevent us from fulfilling a service
request on time. Please report problems promptly to either IMS
office. In many situations we can help you by phone, and it always
helps us to diagnose problems as they are occurring.
