Placement Testing
Plan ahead for next semester.  Registration for Summer classes begins April 3, 2006.

These tests are prerequisites for your first math or English course.

You may take your placement tests in the Testing Center at either
Des Plaines Campus - Room 2409 or Ray Hartstein Campus - Room A135.

  • Test results are valid for two years.
  • Scheduled group tests will begin in March 27.
  • No walk-in testing May 1 - 15.
 
IF YOU HAVE ACT RESULTS LESS THAN 3 YEARS OLD, YOU MAY BE ABLE TO USE THEM FOR PLACEMENT AS FOLLOWS:

•  With a score on the ACT English test of 22 or higher, you will be placed in English 101 and are exempt from the Oakton writing placement test.

•  With a score on the ACT Reading test of 20 or higher, you are exempt from the Oakton reading placement test unless the DRP test is required for a limited enrollment program.

•  If you graduated from the Glenbrook, Niles , Northridge Prep, or Maine high schools, contact the math advisor at mathplace@oakton.edu or call 847-376-7110, for the option of direct placement into a math course.

•  Official ACT reports must be submitted to the Office of Admissions.

General Placement Testing Schedule
What do you need to do in order to test?
  • Be sure you have submitted an application for admission to Oakton Office of Admissions.
  • You must know your Social Security Number and show a photo I.D.
How long do the tests take?
  • The math test is untimed and is done on computer. The average time is 30 minutes although some may take as long as an hour.
  • The English test has two parts, reading (60 minutes) and writing (50 minutes).
  • You may take either test or both on the same day.
When will the test results be ready?
  • Math test results are ready immediately.
  • English test results will usually be available within a week.
