Netscape Messenger
Managing the Message List Area
Messenger allows you do customize the Message list area
The Header area of the main messenger window can be customized to your preferences. In addition to sorting (see "Sorting Messages" under The Basics on the menu), you can re-arrange and re-size most all the screen elements.
The column headers (the horizontal buttons that say Subject, Date, Sender, etc.) can be re-ordered. In the image below you see that the Subject header is in the far left position.

If you'd rather have, for instance, the Sender in the far left:
- Point the mouse at the Sender header.
- Hold down the left mouse button.
- Drag the Sender header to where the Subject header currently is.
- Release the mouse button.
The Sender header should now be in the far left position and the other headers should have shifted to the right.
Resizing columns
You can resize a column to see more or less of the text contained in the column and to
make more room for the other columns.
- Position the mouse pointer over the right border of a column header (such as the Subject header) so that the pointer changes to a double arrow.

- Hold down the left mouse button
| |
- Drag the border left or right to resize the column.

Hiding Column Headers
You can increase and decrease the number of columns visible in the message list
window. For example, if you only want to see the Sender, Subject, and Date columns,
arrange the order of columns to begin with those three, and then hide all the additional
columns until you can see only your chosen columns.
To hide unwanted column headers:
Click one of the two arrows on the right side of the message list window.
Tip: If the columns are so close together
that you can't read all the text in the message header, move your
mouse over the header text and hold it there. A box will pop up
with the complete text.
Resizing the message area
Drag the bar above the message area to resize it.
