Suffering a Playoff Loss
(November 6, 2015) The magical season came to an end for Oakton on November 3. Waubonsee Community College traveled to Des Plaines for the NJCAA Region IV Tournament semifinals and played spoilers defeating the host 1-0. Sophomore center Judith Flores finished the season with 30 points (10 goals, 10 assists) to lead Oakton.
Women’s Soccer Advances to Semifinals of NJCAA Tournament
(November 2, 2015) The Oakton Community College women’s soccer team (12-1-1) treated itself to a spot in the National Junior College Association (NJCAA) Region IV Tournament semifinals by defeating Elgin Community College 1-0 in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Oct. 31. Oakton will next host Waubonsee Community College (7-8-3) at 3 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Freshman forward Cynthia Salgado scored the game-winner on an assist from sophomore center Judith Flores in the first half to account for the lone scoring against Elgin. The goal was Salgado’s 12th of the season, which leads Oakton. Meanwhile, Flores notched her 10th assist of the year for Oakton and tops her squad with 30 points. Oakton dominated action on the field tallying 26 shots on goal. The Oakton defense made it easy on its sophomore goalkeeper Sophia Godoy as she was 1-for-1 in save chances. In more than 771 minutes played on the season, Godoy has made 32 saves. Her 0.47 goals-against average ranks 11th in NJCAA Division II.
Since Sept. 18, Oakton has amassed an 11-match unbeaten streak. During that span, the squad has amazingly outscored opponent 51-4, while recording seven shutouts. Oakton’s only loss of the season came on Sept. 9, when Moraine Valley Community College eked out a 1-0 road victory.
Oakton Women’s Soccer Remains on Fire
(October 22, 2015) With its 4-0 home victory over Elgin Community College on Oct. 21, Oakton’s women’s soccer team (11-1-1, 4-1 Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference) is riding an unbeaten streak of 10 matches. During that span, the squad has amazingly outscored opponents 50-4 and recorded six shutouts. Oakton next hosts Elgin in the National Junior College Association (NJCAA) Region IV Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday, Oct. 31 (time to be announced).
(October 2, 2015) Oakton is currently riding a four-game unbeaten streak. In its most recent game on Sept. 30, the women’s team defeated conference foe Waubonsee Community College 1-0. Freshman forward Suany Godines scored the game winner for Oakton.
Finding the Back of the Net
(September 25, 2015) Freshman forward Cynthia Salgado scored the lone goal for her team in Oakton’s 1-1 tie with Anoka-Ramsey Community College (MN) on Sept. 20. Salgado’s six goals is a team best.
Off to a Good Start
(September 5, 2015) In its two wins this season, Oakton Community College has outscored opponents, 8-1. Sophomore center Judith Flores leads the team with five points (three assists, one goal). Oakton begins Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference play on Sept. 9, when it hosts Moraine Valley Community College at 5 p.m.
