Preparing to Graduate
Students must notify the College of their intention to graduate by completing the online Petition to Graduate.
- Spring 2014: March 14, 5 p.m.
All students who have petitioned by the deadline, will receive a letter in March from the Office of Student Life inviting you to participate in the May 2014 Commencement Ceremony. Participation is free of charge. Those who have already completed the degree requirement in August and December will officially graduate at the ceremony. Those who applied for spring will be eligible to participate. But as grades have not yet been posted, participation does not guarantee your awarded degree/certificate. You will receive a final confirmation letter of completion and your degree from the Enrollment Center.
Caps and Gowns
All graduates planning to participate in the ceremony are required to wear an academic cap and gown provided by the College.
Students may order a cap and gown Wednesday, March 26 through Tuesday, April 1, 2014, in the Office of Student Life on either campus. Details will be mailed to you with the letter you receive in March.
- Pick up
Caps and gowns will be available for pick up in the Office of Student Life, Room 1430 (DP) and A160 (SK).
Monday, May 5 through Thursday, May 8.
The cap, gown and tassel are yours to keep.
Students graduating with academic honors will be recognized in the program and will wear a gold tassel provided by the College. Honors are determined by grades earned through the fall 2013 semester.
- Presidential Honors: 4.00 GPA
- High Honors: 3.75 - 3.99 GPA
- Honors: 3.50-3.74 GPA
Graduates of the Honors Program will be issued an Honor Cord to be worn with the cap and gown.
Members of Phi Theta Kappa will be allowed to order a recognition stole to be worn with the cap and gown. Cost is $20.
Students who wish to participate, but have not ordered a cap and gown by the deadline, should contact the Office of Student Life immediately at 847.635.1699. A late fee will be charged and accommodation in the ceremony cannot be guaranteed to those who miss the deadline.
Students who meet petition and measurement deadlines will receive two tickets for seating in the commencement area. (Seating is not assigned.) Tickets will be issued at cap and gown pick up.
