Personal Counseling

Being a college student can be very stressful. Individual counseling enables students to examine their lives and environment and make the most of their time at Oakton. Common problems and concerns students bring to counseling include:

• grief and loss
• relationship issues
• loneliness
• thoughts of suicide
• gender issues
• concerns about sex and sexuality
• family problems
• trauma or abuse
• eating disorders
• alcohol or drug use issues
• divorce
• cultural perspectives
• self esteem

In addition to providing brief counseling for students enrolled in three or more credit hours, counselors provide crisis intervention, consultation with faculty and staff, and when appropriate, referral to community agencies.

To make an appointment with a counselor, call or stop by Advising and Counseling.  For immediate assistance, speak to a staff member in the Center.
