Test Taking Tips [Music Intro] Woman: Well, I’m off to bed. I’ll see you tomorrow Man: Alright, can I ask you what you’re doing? Heading to bed with your textbook and all your notes in stuffed in a pillowcase? Woman: I have a test tomorrow and, well, nothing else has worked so I’m hoping knowledge will seep into my head overnight and I’ll get an A Man: Well, you studied didn’t you? Woman: Yes, but it never makes a difference. I always panic and end up with a C or less. Man: Well, what test taking strategies do you use? Woman: I study. Man: No! During the test! What do you do during the test to help you do well. Woman: Hey Mr Thickenhoffer, I told you, I study Man: That’s great, but there are things you can do during the test to help you get a good score. Woman: Like looking across the aisle at my at my neighbor’s answers? Man: Hey! If you’re not going to listen then I’m not— Woman: Okay, okay. What are your tips? Man: Well, the first thing you want to do when you take the test is write down the information your most likely to forget, like formulas, dates, places, et cetera. It’s possible that what you remember at the beginning of the test might be significantly more than what you remember during the test. Woman: But shouldn’t I be working on the answers? Not writing down things that might not be on the test? Man: Well, when you’re talking about formulas and names, those are the things that are going to allow you answer to questions. Woman: Okay, so I write down things that I might otherwise forget. What next? Man: Well, next, you preview the test. Woman: Preview the test? Why! It’s not like I can choose not to take it! Man: No, but you can choose how you approach the test. Woman: What do you mean? Man: Well, you want to get as many points on the test as possible, right? Woman: Do you want me to call you “thick” again? Man: No! But tell me, if you don’t preview the test, how are you going to know what questions to answer first? Woman: Well, I usually follow a numeric system. You know, I do number one, then two, then three Man: Well, maybe that’s part of your problem. Woman: How so? Man: You want to figure out how to get the most points in the least amount of time. Woman: And, how do I do that? Man: Well, first you want to answer questions that are easy that are worth the most points. Woman: Yeah, I guess it would be dumb to leave a question blank that I knew the answer to. Man: Exactly, do the questions you know the answers to, first. Woman: So, what about the questions I struggle with? Man: Put a time limit on those, so you don’t waste all your time on what you might not be able to solve.
