Placement Test Schedule

New students must submit an Oakton admission application to the Enrollment Center before testing. No appointment is necessary, but seating is limited. Bring a pen and pencil, a photo I.D., and your Oakton I.D. number. Test results are valid for two years.

 

Plan ahead for the Spring Semester.

Registration for Spring classes begins November 19.

 

Scheduled group tests will begin November 3.

 

These tests are prerequisites for your first math or English course.

 

You may take the placement tests in the Testing Center on either Campus:

Des Plaines Campus-Room 2409 or Harstein Campus-Room A135

  • Test results are valid for two years.
  • No walk-in testing December  1- 18.

 

IF YOU HAVE ACT SCORES, YOU MAY USE THEM FOR PLACEMENT:

  • Official ACT reports must be submitted to the Enrollment Center.
  • With a score on the ACT English test of 20 or higher, you will be placed in English 101 and are exempt from the Oakton writing placement test. 
  • With a score on the ACT Reading test of 20 or higher, you are exempt from the Oakton reading placement test unless the Compass Reading  test is required for a limited enrollment program.
  • If you graduated from the Glenbrook, Niles, Evanston Township, Northridge Prep, or Maine high schools, contact the math advisor at mathplace@oakton.edu or call 847-376-7110, for the option of direct placement into a math course.

 

   TESTING CENTER HOURS

 

Monday – Thursday             8 a.m.  –  8 p.m.

Friday                                8 a.m.  –  5 p.m.

Saturday                          10 a.m.  –  2 p.m.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO IN ORDER TO TEST?

  • Be sure you have submitted an application for admission to Oakton.
  • You must know your Oakton I.D. number and show a photo I.D.

 

HOW LONG DO THE TESTS TAKE?

  • The math and reading tests are untimed and taken on computer.  The average time is 30 minutes although some may take as long as an hour.
  • The writing test is 75 minutes.

 

WHEN WILL THE TEST RESULTS BE READY?

  • Math and reading test results are ready immediately.
  • English writing test results will usually be ready within a week.
