Placement Test Schedule

Plan ahead for the spring semester.

These tests are prerequisites for your first math or English course.

  • The math and reading tests are untimed and taken on computer.  The average time is 45 minutes although some may take as long as an hour.
  • The writing test is 75 minutes.


You may take your placement tests in the Testing Center at either the:

Des Plaines Campus – Room 2409 or Ray Hartstein Campus – Room A135.

Monday – Thursday         8 a.m.  –  8 p.m.
    Friday                        8 a.m.  –  5 p.m.
   Saturday                      10 a.m.  –  2 p.m.
  (when classes are in session)

If you have ACT scores, you may use them for placement.

  • Official ACT reports must be submitted to the Enrollment Center.
  • With a score on the ACT English test of 20 or higher, you will be placed in English 101 and are exempt from the Oakton writing placement test. 
  • With a score on the ACT Reading test of 20 or higher, you are exempt from the Oakton reading placement test unless the Compass Reading test is required for a limited enrollment program.
  • If you graduated from the Glenbrook, Niles, Evanston Township, Northridge Prep, or Maine Township high schools, contact the math advisor at or call 847.376.7110, for the option of direct placement into a math course.

Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Monday - Thursday, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Interim Hours (Between Semesters)
Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
