# Placement Test Preparation

The Learning Center has created packets and presentations to prepare you for the placement tests. These packets are only intended to serve as a review. Remember that you cannot fail the placement test, your chances for success in math, English and writing classes are best when the tests reflect your comfort level of knowledge.

**Reading and Writing Test Preparation**

Find information on the structure of the reading and writing placement tests, including helpful tips and strategies; sample questions; and examples of successful student responses.

**Math Test Preparation**

Math placement test materials are accessible via the ALEKS Prep and Learning Modules. These modules are available to students after they take their first math placement test. Students have the ability to retake the math placement test up to five times within a year to improve placement.

To make each test attempt worthwhile, it is important (and required) that you spend time working in your ALEKS Prep and Learning Modules between placement assessments so that you can improve your skills. Students are required to work in the Prep and Learning Modules for a specific amount of time prior to each assessment to increase success.

**ALEKS general math and geometry assessment**

- 2nd attempt—required to complete 3 hours of work in the Prep and Learning Modules before attempting assessment.
- 3rd attempt—required to complete 3 additional hours of work in the Prep and Learning Modules before attempting assessment.
- 4th attempt—required to complete 5 additional hours of work in the Prep and Learning Modules before attempting assessment.
- 5th attempt—required to complete 8 additional hours of work in the Prep and Learning Modules before attempting assessment.

You will have access to the Prep and Learning modules for ALEKS general math assessment for six months after you start working in the modules, and for one year for the ALEKS geometry assessment.

Covering topics in the **MAT 060** course.
