Caring for Women with HIV: Global and Local Challenges

"Dr. Mardge Cohen , one of the world's leading authorities on women and HIV, discusses her work from Chicago to Rwanda as part of Women's History Month at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines. Dr. Cohen's keynote address, “Caring for Women with HIV: Global and Local Challenges , ” takes place at 11 a.m. , Monday, March 26, 2007 in Room 1610. The public is invited to this free event.

For 30 years, Dr. Cohen has worked at Cook County Hospital (now Stroger Hospital ), where she founded the Women and Children HIV Program. In 2004, she began traveling to Rwanda to work with grass roots organizations to provide care for women and children with HIV. Dr. Cohen is currently director of women's HIV research at the CORE Center ."

Cohen, who is a physician at Stroger Hospital in Chicago and is a leader in local research on women and HIV, first turned her attention to Rwanda when she came across a call for help from a Rwandan women's group."
