Hints About Duplicating at Oakton

As you have probably discovered, each of you has a duplicating limit for using the the Division 3 office machine. The Skokie and Des Plaines campuses have different limits as well as different login procedures for duplicating. Check with the assistant on duty to verify your procedure.

Be sure to log off of the duplicating machine, or someone else's duplicating will end up counting against your limit!

The frugal way to duplicate is to use the central duplicating facility. However, many adjunct faculty are on campus only a few days per week, so filling out the form and handing in duplicating can be inconvenient.

The alternative is to fax or email your duplicating requests to the Des Plaines Copy Center. Their fax number is 847-635-1607 and their email address is printshop@oakton.edu. However, you must still observe some rules:

1. Be sure to give all the same information that you would on the regular form. Keep a spare sample form with you, or follow the requirements on the image below. The duplicating limit per any one item still applies. Be sure to note which division office is to receive your delivery.

2. Do not expect miracles with last minute requests just because you are using a fax or email. The folks in the shop still need enough turn-around time to get your order done, particularly if it has to be sent to the Skokie campus, so don't expect same-day service. If you know you have an order coming up, ask the coy center if they can hold some time for you.

3. I suggest avoiding listing large multiple orders on one email -- that gets confusing for everyone. Remember, if you were on campus filling out the forms, you would fill out one form for each item to be duplicated, so send your email accordingly.

4. If you have a special event for which you want eye-catching flyers, consider asking for the "neon" version of a color, for example "neon yellow." This paper may be more expensive, so inquire first.

I have had wonderful service from the duplicating center. They are friendly and willing to help, but they do get overwhelmed at busy times of the year. Try to see things through their eyes and think ahead to enjoy their best service.
