"The unexamined life is not worth living."
Growing up in Ohio, I always questioned and examined everything.
Eventually, my questions became more and more sophisticated, such
as
" How do I know anything exists" or "Can we prove
that there is life after death." Fortunately, I had a father
who encouraged such questioning, and often debated with me regarding
many important issues. Ultimately, such questioning and debating
led me in college to the discipline of philosophy. When I took a
course in ethics in my undergraduate studies, I fell in love with
philosophy! I eventually completed my Master of Arts in Philosophy
at the University of Steubenville.
After teaching philosophy part time at a community
college for three years, I decided to go back to school to pursue
a degree in Math Education. Eventually, I pursued a Master of Science
degree in mathematics at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. My love
for philosophy led to a love of logic, and to my surprise, let me
to a great love for mathematics. Unlike Plato or Kant, who started
studying mathematics and were led to philosophy, I was led to mathematics
through philosophy! Currently, I am teaching mathematics at Lake
Forest Academy in Lake Forest, Illinois.
I am also excited to teach philosophy at Oakton
Community College. I am truly grateful to be teaching two subjects
that I love so much!
