Born and raised in Hong Kong, Carol Ng is a Chicago-based interdisciplinary and performing artist, art educator, and community activist. She received a Master’s degree of Arts in Art Education from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2007, a Bachelor’s degree in Arts in Performing Arts Management from Columbia College Chicago in 2004. As a trained classical player for piano and Pipa (a traditional Chinese instrument), she performed with local modern dance choreographers in 2002 and 2003 at Links Hall and The Duncan YMCA Chernin Center for the Arts in Chicago; performance pieces include 21 A.D. Asian Festival, 3 Threads, and Where is My Heel?. Carol was a visiting artist at Stone Scholastic Elementary School and Harold Washington College in fall and summer 2006 respectively.

Carol is featured on Chicago Artists Resource Arts Professional’s Story section (http://www.chicagoartistsresource.org). Her publications include Stepping In and Out: Performance Art in the Community College ESL Curriculum on Community Arts Network (http://www.communityarts.net), Exploring Immigrant experience through a Performance-art-based CurriculumHidden Visual Curriculum in Higher Education in artishake e-journal (No. 5, Winter/Spring 2007). She was a recipient of the Sumasil Foundation grant in 2005/2006.

Carol is currently the Managing Director at Teatro Luna, Chicago’s all-Latina theater company, and serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors at Beyondmedia Education, a Chicago-based nonprofit organization which mission is to give voice to under-served and under-represented women, youth and communities through the creation and distribution of alternative media and arts. Carol is also the teaching artist/workshop co-facilitator for Young Asians With Power! (YAWP!), a multi-disciplinary, for-youth-by-youth arts program for Asian/Pacific Islander American (APIA) teens in the Chicagoland area. Since 2005, Carol has been a member and event co-organizer for the Chicago Teaching Artists Collective.
