Welcome

As a member of the Learning Center staff I have been teaching and working at Oakton for fifteen years. My work involves advising and tutoring approximately 150 International Students (exchange) students, and several thousand students who speak English as a Second Language. My teaching includes online courses Overview of the Internet, College Success.

Before coming to Oakton, I worked at Northeastern Illinois University, and in the music business for several years. I have a Master's of Arts degree in teaching music, focusing on world music. I enjoy helping students from around the world as they learn how to succeed in American higher education.

Do you have an international background that I should know about? I would like to hear from you! In addition, if you are a native speaker of one of our Modern Languages, and have some teaching or tutoring experience, we would like to consider you for our tutoring staff.

AWARDS
In 2004, I received an award for College Success in High School program from the Illinois Council of Community College Administrators. The program teaches College Success strategies to high school seniors.

RESEARCH
This past year I have been involved in research on the First Year Experience in the Community College. The college is investigating how we assist new and first year students.

My other research has been on how Culture influences preferred Learning Styles.

OTHER
When I'm not teaching, I enjoy listening to world and classical music, and playing the piano.
