Extra Credit

During the course of the semester students may choose to attend events that are relevant to feminist issues such as, women’s lived experiences, women’s rights, social/activist causes, and causes and concerns around gender and write a 2 page reflection paper on this experience. The paper will consist of your reaction to the event as well as a critical reflection on why this event hosts an important dialogue within feminism.

What are the overall statements and/or intentions of the people hosting the event and what affect (if any) does it have on feminism, feminist movement or women and men in contemporary society. 

 These events can take many shapes and forms. Some examples of the types of events are as follows, but you are certainly not limited to these:

Talks with artists/activists, academic panels, conferences, workshops, performances, plays, music events, art openings, dance recitals, poetry slams, rallies, protests,  just to name a few.

Other events may be considered, but will need to get my approval first in order to be counted for extra credit.

Be sure to include:

• Artist, Activist, Group, Organization, Conference, Event name
• Date
• Venue
• Name/Title of piece, exhibit, or performance
• Why you chose this event?
• What significance does it have on women in contemporary society (if any)?
• What is the major idea/theme the presenters are trying to convey?
• Does it have a political and/or activist statement?
• Where you annoyed, moved, delighted, inspired, and/or intrigued?
• What questions are you left with after attending this event?
• Would you see another event like this? Tell your friends?
• Did you recognize any influences from the material we have studied in this course?

Students can earn up to 2 pts for each event with a total of 4pts for extra credit for this course.
