Extra Credit
During the course of the semester students may choose to attend an event and write a 2-3 page paper on this experience. The paper will consist of your reaction to the event as well as a critical reflection on the artist (s) statement and/or intentions and what affect it has on viewers in a contemporary setting.
These events can take many shapes and forms. Some examples of the types of events are as follows, but you are certainly not limited to these:
Talks with artists/activists, academic panels, conferences, workshops, performances, plays, music events, art openings, dance recitals, poetry slams, rallies, protests, an art exhibit, gallery opening, music event, poetry reading, film festival, most of which can be found right here at Oakton throughout the semester.
Other events may be considered, but will need to get my approval first in order to be counted for extra credit.
Be sure to include;
Artist(s) name
Date
Venue
Name of piece, exhibit, and performance
Why you chose this event?
What was the objective of the event?
What significance does it have on cotemporary society (if any)?
What is the major idea/theme the artist is trying to convey?
Does it have a political and/or activist statement?
Where you annoyed, moved, delighted, inspired, and/or intrigued?
Would you see another event by this artist? Tell your friends?
Did you recognize any influences from artists or art movements that we have studied earlier in the course?
Your paper
must include the above questions for credit.
Students can
earn 2 pt per event with a total of 4 pts earned for the semester.
