HIT 251 001/050 Health Information Technology Practice I

Fall 2009

 

 

Before getting started please read all instructions carefully.

 

1.   Course Textbook Information

 

       There is no required new textbook for this class. The course uses textbooks purchased by students for previous HIT AAS courses.     

       On the first day of class students will receive a copy of the HIT 251/252 Student Handbook 2009/2010.

 

2.   Clinical Assignments

 

       Clinical assignments and/or project schedules are given out and explained on the first day of class. It is not possible to know prior to that day.    

      

3.   Logging into Course Website - You have 24/7 access to the website once the class begins on Monday August 24, 2009.

 

The class WebCT website is used extensively for this class including the submission of assignments and clinical logs. When you register for classes at Oakton you receive access to our computer system and school resources at both the Des Plaines and Skokie campus.  This also includes an e-mail account with an assigned

e-mail address. 

 

***The required source of communication between the school and student is through student’s Oakton email address and account*****

 

      Your User name and Password will be entered on the class Website the day your class begins. To visit the class Website go on the Internet and enter  

      http://elearn.oakton.edu/ this will open the WebCt page.  Click on My WebCt and enter your User Name and Password.  Then click open HIT 251 001 Des Plaines  

      section or HIT 251 050 Skokie section. 

 

      Your User Name – your first initial and the first 7 letters of your last name, and the last 4 numbers of your Oakton ID B number.

      Your Password   – is your birthdate without dashes.

 

      Example:  Sally Johnson  B1234567   User Name – sjohnson4567   Password - 052684 (birthdate no dashes)

              

 

 

4.      Technology Requirements - The class is accessible from all the OCC campus computers.  To access the website from outside you will need one of the following browsers:

 

Windows 98/Me/2000/XP

                 Netscape 4.76 and 6.2.1

                  Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher, including 6.0 (Note: IE 5.5 SP1 is not supported)

                  AOL 7.0

             Mac OS 9.x

WebCT also has a help button available within your class website that should be used by the student.
