Dear Technical Writing Students:

I hope this course will help make your on-the-job writing easier and more reader-friendly. My goal  is to offer you opportunities to learn specific skills that you can apply as you write various documents  for your fields of study and/or jobs.

This course is geared for people in scientific and technology fields who need to write various documents (procedural, instructional) and reports as part of their job responsibilities.  The focus will always be on writing clear, usable documents for specific audiences and purposes, including online reading and usability.   Please do read the web pages (don't just skim them!), as well as the textbook material so that you produce effective, well-written documents.  Since this is an online course, it is imperative that you read everything thoroughly, especially the material contained on this "course content" link and the postings available in WebCt.

I am looking forward to working with you this semester.  Maureen Douglas
