3: Formal Reports
In addition to writing, this unit will test your ability
to work effectively with teammates (collaboration). The entire unit consists of doing a
research project ("Graded Assign")
with teammates.

In this unit, you will learn how to:
- Use appropriate components in formal reports
- Format title pages, table of contents and bibliography
- Research data using the Internet and library sources
- Identify data needs based on document purpose
- Set up a logical analysis, identifying relevant criteria and comparing/contrasting data
- Identify graphic needs and design tables appropriate for presentation of specific data.
- Prioritize criteria and draw logical conclusions
- Distinguish data presentation from analysis in writing.
- Write conclusions and recommendations.
- Write a report summary directed to an executive audience. (Executive
Summary)
- Write transmittal letters.
- Identify specialized skills for effective collaboration.
- Work effectively with peers and supervisor to produce a useful document.
- Assess objectively and document individual contributions to a team project.
