Module 1:  Business Correspondence

Skills 1 and 2  are required to achieve a passing grade for this unit (and for the course).

1. How to use standard (conventional) components for letters and memos .

2. When to use letter format vs. memo format. 


3. How to use the 3-part format for business correspondence.

4. How to analyze your audience (reader).

5. How to determine the purpose of the document.

6 How to put yourself in the place of the reader/audience and write so he/she can use the document as intended.

7. How to organize your information in a way that is logical.

8. How to give your reader the appropriate information needed to fulfill the document's intended  purpose (s).

9. How to identify the document as upward, downward or lateral and assume an appropriate tone.

10. How to write concisely and clearly, adhering to the rules of grammar and mechanics,
