Introductory Memo Exercise

Hello!
This assignment will give both of us an opportunity to communicate via memo. I'll be using this first assignment as a basis for diagnosis  as well as a way of getting to know you.

Write a memo to me introducing yourself.  Be sure to include information you think would be useful for me (as your writing instructor) to help you improve your writing.   Include information about your writing background, skills, weak areas, career (field of study), as well as your "goals for this course."  I'd like you to really think about what you want to learn--specifically.  Don't just say "to write better."  Think about what areas of writing you have difficulty with--part of the writing process or areas of grammar, language, sentence structure, format, design. Please be sure to tell me what types of on-the-job writing you do or plan on doing, based on your field of study.  You may need to ask someone who is working in your field (or a professor in that field) about the kinds of documents they write.

It would be a good idea to read the beginning chapters in your text and to read through the website (certainly Chapters 8 and 9) for tips on writing a good business memo.  Use conventional memo format and adhere to the "Qualities of Effective Writing" in Assessment.

ONLINE STUDENTS:  POST THIS MEMO TO THE BULLETINS in WEBCT.  POST IT AS AN MSWORD ATTACHMENT - "DOC" ONLY (USE WORD 2003, not 2007, PLEASE)
