Computer Technologies and Information Systems
AITP -- Association of
Information Technology Professionals
The
AITP is a professional national organization for individuals interested in computer
information technology.
In 1950s, a group of
technically-oriented people organized a users group called AITP (formerly DPMA)
as a resource for technical and career minded people who needed guidance for
the rapidly changing technology. Then in 1968, AITP Student Chapters were
established. Student Chapters are designed for students planning careers
in information systems or related fields. It enables students to obtain
knowledge that goes beyond the classroom, especially in a profession where textbooks
may be obsolete before they are printed.
Goals:

Complement
classroom studies

Provide
students with opportunities to participate in the information technology
community
§
Explore
various career opportunities
§
Provide
insight and guidance to AITP members
§
Help
students majoring in information technology be committed to a career in the
field
§
Help
student members become future leaders in information technology
Membership:
Student
membership is open to all current students of OCC. There is a $35 membership fee.
Oakton’s
AITP chapter holds monthly meetings covering a variety of information
technology topics. The club usually has
at least one outside speaker per semester come in to discuss different topics.
During
the school year the club keeps busy with BSA activities, as well as fundraising
for the spring collegiate conference.
