AITP -- Association of Information Technology Professionals

The AITP is a professional national organization for individuals interested in computer information technology.

In 1950s, a group of technically-oriented people organized a users group called AITP (formerly DPMA) as a resource for technical and career minded people who needed guidance for the rapidly changing technology. Then in 1968, AITP Student Chapters were established.  Student Chapters are designed for students planning careers in information systems or related fields.  It enables students to obtain knowledge that goes beyond the classroom, especially in a profession where textbooks may be obsolete before they are printed.
Goals:

§                     Complement classroom studies

§                     Provide students with opportunities to participate in the information technology community

§                     Explore various career opportunities

§                     Provide insight and guidance to AITP members

§                     Help students majoring in information technology be committed to a career in the field

§                     Help student members become future leaders in information technology

Membership:

Student membership is open to all current students of OCC.  There is a $35 membership fee.

Oakton’s AITP chapter holds monthly meetings covering a variety of information technology topics.  The club usually has at least one outside speaker per semester come in to discuss different topics.

During the school year the club keeps busy with BSA activities, as well as fundraising for the spring collegiate conference.  This year the collegiate conference will be held in Texas.  The collegiate conference offers students opportunities to attend workshops.  In addition, the conference offers a job fair with companies across the country, and last-but-not-least a competition of different IT topics such as; COBOL, VB, CTT, systems analysis and design, JAVA, Database, and student papers.
