  UNIT III: BASIC HUMAN NEEDS AND THE DEVELOPMENTAL STAGES OF MAN 
 

Objectives 

Discuss how Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs relates to health.
2. Recognize the developmental stage of clients at various ages as defined by Erikson and Piaget.
3. Discuss how to identify clients at risk for abnormal growth and development throughout the life span.
4. List Interventions to promote achievement of normal growth and development in the healthy client.

Client Care
Clinical Assignment
1.  According to written guidelines (Appendix C) complete a written case study of a client including developmental tasks, culture, and 
health promotion interventions. 

2.  During clinical rotations interview 2 different persons from 2 different stages according to Erikson's theory. 

3.  Complete a Denver Development Screening  Test. View the video "Denver II" before your pediatric rotation. 

4.  In conference discuss your findings. Compare & contrast cultural health beliefs & practices.  Discuss implication of completion and/or noncompletion of Erikson's tasks. Give examples of health promotion interventions that you used.

5.  Oral presentations of case studies
