OFFICE HOURS
Since this is an online class, most of our communication will be online. My e-mail address is strehler@oakton.edu. If you have a question about a specific problem in the homework, please use the "ask my instructor" link in the homework software (I get a copy of the problem you're working on this way!) I'll check my e-mail at least once a day during the week (typically between 10 & 11am, but it might vary) & will get back to you within 24 hours!
I will also be on campus Des Plaines: 2741 or by phone: (847)376-7071 during the following times:
| June 13 | 12:00 - 7:00 |
| June 27 | 11:30 - 2:00 |
| July 7 | 9:30 - 12:00 |
| July 21 | 9:30 - 12:00 |
| July 25 | 9:30 - 12:00 |
The tutoring centers are FREE and are open Monday - Thursday from 8am - 8pm. They are located at room 2400 in Des Plaines and A135 in Skokie.
HOMEWORK
The homework counts for 20% of your grade in this course.
Do not rely too heavily on the "help me solve this" or "show me an example" buttons that are available in most homework problems or you may find that you do not know the material well enough to do well on the quizzes and exams.
QUIZZES
The 7 chapter quizzes count for a total of 20% of your grade.
You must get at least 70% on each of the homework assignments in the chapter in order to take the chapter quiz.
There are no exceptions to this rule. Please allow sufficient time to master the material in each section so that you are able to earn at least 70% on each HW assignment.
You will have 3 opportunities to take each quiz (the highest score will be recorded). Quizzes can be reviewed in preparation for an exam after the due date for the quiz.
EXAMS
Each of the 2 exams will count for 30% of your grade.
The exams are paper & pencil and will be taken without the aid of a graphing calculator, books or notes.
Exams must be taken in a proctored location.
* The default location for the exams is our Des Plaines testing center. If you intend to take the exams at our Skokie location, you must notify me at least one week before the exam begins.
* Our testing centers are open 8am - 8pm Monday - Thursday and are closed on July 4th for the holiday.
* If you do not intend to take the exams at one of our campus testing centers, you will need to contact Robin Nash at rnash@oakton.edu NOW to make arrangements for alternative testing sites. Final arrangements must be in place with proctors no later than 6/24.
Also, the MyLabsPlus/MyMathLab site is expected to be down on 06/26/11 from 12:01 AM – noon. It is my experience that these planned outages may take slightly longer than planned. Please plan accordingly.
I look forward to working with you this semester!
